CLUB RULES

HYGIENE

  • Only bare feet or socks are permitted on the mats

  • Always arrive to class fresh, clean and wearing deodorant

  • Keep your nails cut short

  • Do not train if you have a cold or other illness

  • Do not train with skin conditions such as ringworm or staph. If in doubt, always ask the coach before training

  • If you suffer from a foot conditions such as fungal nail infection or verrucas, you must wear socks on the mats

  • Wash your uniform (including belt) after every use

  • If your uniform starts to smell, give it a soak in white vinegar or laundry sanitiser

CLOTHING

  • Always wear a rashguard or t-shirt under your gi

  • Remove any jewellery, watches, and piercings. If not removable, cover with tape

RESTRICTED SUBMISSIONS

  • Belt-restricted submissions such as knee bars are permitted in sparring at all belt levels with prior consent from both your partner and the coach

  • The responsibility is on the attacker to keep their partner safe at all times, always be ready to let go immediately if needed

  • Competition rulesets must still be followed, e.g. no heel hooks in the gi

BANNED TECHNIQUES

The most common cause of serious injuries is uncontrolled falling body weight. For that reason, while legal in many rulesets, the following techniques are banned from use during training without express permission from the coach:

  • Jumping closed guard | video

  • Tani-Otoshi when performed with your head in front or to the side of your partner | video

  • Kani-Basami (leg scissor) | video

  • Flying armbars/triangles
